For 1998, the Firebird is available in five models- Coupe, Convertible, Formula, Trans Am and Trans Am Convertible. The Firebird convertible comes with many improvements for 1998. Some of these include clutch improvements on the manual transmission, a new alternator and improved exhaust system that has 1/3 of its parts eliminated to reduce squeaks and rattles. The new anti-lock brakes are now solenoid based and the rear brakes have Electronic Brakeforce Distribution. The diameter of the front disc brakes has been increased to 11.9 inches and the diameter of the rear disc has been increased to 12 inches. The tuning for the suspension has been revised. This years new exterior colors are Navy Metallic and Sport Gold Metallic.
